13 fun things to do on new years

My mother once told me that everything you do and the way you feel on the 1st of each year sets the tone for the rest of the year and silly me, I didn’t pay any attention to her “Superstition got nothing on me”. In 2020, i had the worst new years and best believe that 2020 ended up being one of my worst years I had ever experienced. From that moment on, I believed what my mom had said, what seemed to be a little superstition changed my entire view about new beginnings and how it is beneficial to make an effort to always start well.

New Year’s is a time of celebration, reflection, and new beginnings. It is a time of happiness and although life is multifaceted and anything can happen on such important days, it still can be celebrated in the littlest ways. What matters is the little effort we put. In this post, we discuss 10 simple and fun activities you can try to set a good start for the year.

1. Host a Themed Party

Throwing a themed New Year’s party () is a fantastic way to end the year with flair. Pick a theme—like “Roaring ‘20s,” “Hollywood Glam,” or even a pajama party—and encourage your guests to dress up. Decorate your space to match the theme, serve themed snacks and drinks, and curate a playlist that keeps everyone in the spirit. It’s a guaranteed hit for a night of laughter and memories.

2. Countdown Under the Stars

If you’re someone who enjoys the outdoors, consider celebrating New Year’s Eve with a stargazing session. Gather a group of friends or family, set up cozy blankets and chairs, and enjoy the beauty of the night sky as you wait for the clock to strike midnight. Add some sparklers or fireworks for a magical finale to your evening.

For someone like me who enjoys solitude, I would prefer to do this alone while reconnecting to my inner self, praying and making plans.

3. Create a Vision Board for the Year Ahead

For a more introspective and creative celebration, spend the evening making a vision board. Gather magazines, printouts, glue, and markers to craft a visual representation of your goals and dreams for the coming year. This is an excellent activity to do solo or with friends. Not only does it inspire positivity, but it also gives you a tangible reminder of what you’re working toward. You can also review a vision/goal/plan if you already have one and pray towards it.

4. Plan a Movie Marathon

If you’re looking for a low-key way to celebrate, a movie marathon is perfect. Choose a series of films or a collection of feel-good favorites, stock up on popcorn, and snuggle up on the couch. You can even make it thematic by watching movies that reflect on time, new beginnings, or celebrations.
